Hallo Orient-Express-Fans,
wie Ihr wisst gibt es einen Orientexpress-Set von LGB mit einem Speise- und einem vierachsigen, langen Gepäckwagen.
Ich habe mich damals gleich beim Auspacken geärgert, dass die Fensterrahmen des Gepäckwagen unmodifiziert silberfarbig anstatt wie alles andere goldfarbig ausgeführt waren.
Da wurde an der falschen Stelle ohne jeglichen Sinn für Ästhetik gespart.
Für mich war von Anfang an klar, hier mussten goldfarbige Fensterrahmen her und die lächerlichen aufgemalten ovalen O-E-Fenster durch richtige, plastische ersetzt werden.
Dabei erwies es sich als sehr glücklich, dass
a) das echte ovale Fenster in das kleinste des Gepäckwagen nahtlos integriert werden konnte und
b) die großen Fester nach überstreichen der silberfarbigen Fensterrahmen jetzt nicht nur mit goldfarbigen Rahmen versehen werden konnten, sondern auch noch die beiden Fenster in der Schiebetür, weil jetzt alle Fenster die gleiche, "kleinere" Höhe aufwiesen.
Hier meine Modifikation:
Die Fensterrahmen wurden aus 0,8 mm starken Messing geätzt. Sie sind mir etwas zu filigran geraten, was vor allem beim Herauslösen (sprich Durchsägen der Haltestege) erhebliche Mühe machte. Das ovale Fenster wurde zweischichtig aus geführt, das heißt ein 0,8 mm starkes Grundplättchen mit dem Fensterkreuz und ein zweites Plättchen nur mit dem äußeren ovalen Fensterrahmen. Das hat den Vorteil, dass letzterer separat blau lackiert werden kann.
Apropos blau: Nach drei Fehlversuchen habe ich das richtige Blau gefunden, und zwar das Lufthansablau von Revell (SM 350).
Noch eine kleine Warnung, falls jemand seinen O-E-Gepäckwagen entsprechend modifizieren will, die Eckausrundungen der großen Fenster unterscheiden sich deutlich von denen der Schiebetür.
Man kann sehen, mit wie wenig Aufwand ein weit stimmigeres Modell des Gepäckwagens entstehen kann.
Jetzt suche ich mir nur noch ein paar goldfarbige Haltestangen und dann ist die Sache endgültig gegessen.

Hello Orient-Express fans
As you know, LGB offered an Orient Express set consisting of a dining and a long, four-axle, luggage car.
I was quite annoyed when I first unpacked the set because the window frames were unmodified in silver instead of in gold like everything else.
LGB saved a few pennies in the wrong place with no sense of aesthetics.
For me it was clear from the beginning, gold-colored window frames had to be added and the ridiculous painted oval Orient-Express windows had to be replaced with proper, three-dimensional ones.
It was rather fortunate that:
a) the real oval window could be integrated seamlessly integrated into the smallest existing window of the car and
b) painting over the large silver-coloured window frames not only provided the gold colour but also enhanced the two windows in the sliding door because all the windows now had the same "small" height.
Here's my adaptation:
The window frames were etched from 0.8 mm thick brass. I found them a little too delicate, mainly while trying to remove them (ie sawing through the holding frame) which caused considerable extra effort. The oval window was constructed in two layers, ie, a 0.8 mm thick base plate with the window cross and a second plate with only the outer oval window frame. This has the advantage that the latter can be painted blue separately.
Speaking of blue: After three failed attempts, I finally found the right blue - the Revell SM 350 Lufthansa blue.
And a little note: If someone wants to modify their Orient Express luggage car in this manner, the rounded corners of the large windows are significantly different from those of the sliding door windows.
It can be seen that with as little bit of effort one can create a far nicer model of the baggage car.
Now all I need are a few gold coloured handrails and I'm finally done.
