Prototype
For years, the Mallet locomotives formed the backbone of the rolling stock on the narrow lines in the Harz. Tthis locomotive as well as the NWE 18 was delivered by Jung in 1898. The locomotive still exists and is owned by the Harzer Schmalspurbahnen (Harz Narrow gauge Railroads - HSB).

The locomotive is currently not in service. However, that locomotive is regularly exhibited on a flatbed trailer and serves as a promotional item for the HSB. After World War I in 1918 the locomotive was renumbered to NWE 13. In 1949 the locomotive was transferred to Deutsche Reichsbahn (German State Railroad). In 1974, as part of the festivities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the HSB,Harzquerbahn, the locomotive was repainted in green livery. And as of 1993 the locomotive is owned by the Harz Narrow Gauge Railroad.
