First LGB MRRC Convention car - produced by Al Lentz

The LGB Model Railroad Club was founded by the late Alfred E. Lentz in 1979 in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area.
Al Lentz served as president and editor of the Blg Train Operator Newsletter (later a rnagazine) for many years following the inception of the club. From the very beginning the LGB Model Railroad Club was officially sanctioned by Wolfgang Richter, president of the Ernst Paul Lehmann Patentwerk. The club began with approximately 10 members from the Pittsburgh area and from those meagre beginnings the club has grown and expanded to several thousand members from almost all of the 50 states and several foreign countries.

In 1979, the very first year of the existence of the LGB Model Railroad Club, the first national convention of the club was held in Strasburg, Pennsylvania.
For the first convention, Al produced the very first convention car and continued to produce every convention car, locomotive, and set until 1988 (except for 4047BTO). All were basically repainted and relettered stock LGB cars, locomotives, and sets. Beginning with the 1989 convention car, all cars were produced by the Ernst Paul Lehmann (EPL) Patentwerk and carry factory ID numbers.

In 2004 issues arose between EPL and the club that led to the withdrawal of EPL (LGB) support and the subsequent change of the club's direction (now as BTO only) including the manufacturer of the various club cars after that date.
