Description:

In AblÃ¶sung des Dampfbetriebes beschaffte die WP&Y zwischen 1954 und 1966 die ersten elf 900 PS starken Diesellokst. Die immer schwerer werdenden ErzzÃ¼ge bedingten aber die Anschaffung weiterer Lokomotiven.
So erhielt 1969 die Firma Alco den Auftrag fÃ¼r den Bau der 1200 PS starken 6 Zylinder DL535E mit den Betriebsnummern 101 - 107. Als ALCO in den Bau von Lokomotiven in den USA einstellte, wurden die Loks von der kanadischen ALCO-Tochtergesellschaft "Montreal Locomotive Works" fertig gebaut .
1972 erhielt die White Pass dann auch die letzte Lok des Anschlussauftrages 108 - 110.
Nach Einstellung des GÃ¼terverkehrs 1982 wurden einige der Loks nach Kolumbien verkauft und Ende der 90er Jahre wieder zurÃ¼ckgekauft, da sie fÃ¼r den Touristenverkehr wieder benÃ¶tigt wurden.
Die Nummer 103 (ausgeliefert im Dezember 1969) befindet sich auch heute noch in Diensten der WP&Y. Heute allerdings wieder in ihrer ursprÃ¼nglichen gelb-grÃ¼nen Lackierung.
