Denver, South Park & Pacific RR Mogul
Description: English below

www.narrowgauge.org
www.fs.fed.us/r2/psicc/sopa/roberts.shtml

Auflage in 1985: Über 10 000 Stück.

The prototype for this model is a 2-6-0 "Mogul Steam Locomotive.

Not quite as famous as the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad which also starts in Denver, the "Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad" (D.SP & P.RR) maintained their own private network for about 10 years until 1889 when it was renamed the Denver, Leadville and Gunnison Railroad. Another 10 years later it was integrated with the Colorado Southern Railroad.
That narrow-gauge railroad existed until 1937. In 1956 the railroad right-of-way was dismantled and on the former right-of-ways roads were built.
Since 1993, USDA Forest Service and others are restoring some of the historic sites.

More on the D., SP & P. RR can be found here:

The cow catcher at the front is equipped with an auxiliary coupling just like the prototype since in the US narrow gauge locomotives were always turned around at the end points of their run using a turntables or a track wye.
Since this was a wood-burning locomotive, the smoke stack incorporated a large spark arrestor which also had to effectively suppress the sparks from causing a fire in the dry forests.

This locomotive is the version from the first LGB production run of moguls in 1985. The Denver & Rio Grande versions of this locomotive shown in the 1983 - 1985 LGB catalogues were never produced, instead, self-adhesive decals were provided with the 2018D locomotives to re-letter and renumber them.
The first production run can also be identified by the gold-coloured plastic retaining bar on the boiler, the late versions use brass profiles with plastic retainers.
This model is already equipped with the constant 5 volt electronics for lights and also for the smoke generator - that makes the smoke generator much more effective than the 24 volt version.

Production in 1985: More than 10 000 units.
