Die Rhätische Bahn (RhB) beschaffte 1913 sieben kleine Elloks. 1943 wurde eine der Loks umgebaut: Ein neuer Lokkasten mit Mittelführerstand ermöglichte freie Rundumsicht für den Lokführer und gab der Lok den Spitznamen "Bügeleisen". Noch 1998 rangierte die Lok regelmäßig in Ilanz.
Das LGB-Modell ist entsprechend dem Zustand Ende der 40er Jahre lackiert und beschriftet. Der außenliegende Antrieb ist voll funktionsfähig nachgebildet.
Vorbild
Die Rhätische Bahn beschaffte 1913 sieben kleine Elloks für die Engadin-Strecke von St. Moritz nach Scoul. Diese Loks erhielten die Bezeichnung “Ge 2/4” und die Nummern 201-207.Lok 206 wurde 1943 zur Rangierlok 212 umgebaut. Ein neuer Lokkasten mit Mittelführerstand ermöglichte freie Rundumsicht für den Lokführer. Während einige andere umgebaute Ge 2/4 neue Motoren und Kraftübertragungen erhielten, blieb die 212 mechanisch unverändert. Noch 1998 rangierte die Lok regelmäßig in Ilanz, 85 Jahre nach der Indienststellung! Lackierung und Beschriftung des LGB-Modells entsprechen dem umgebauten Zustand Ende der 40er Jahre.

This was one of seven locos purchased by the Rhätische Bahn in 1913, but in 1943, the RhB replaced the original box body with a center cab with improved visibility for switching. In 1998, the venerable “flatiron” loco was still switching at Ilanz station.

The Prototype
In 1913, Switzerland’s Rhätische Bahn (RhB) purchased seven light electric locomotives for the Engadin line from St. Moritz to Scoul. These "Ge 2/4" locos were numbered 201 to 207.In 1943, Loco 206 was rebuilt as a switching loco and renumbered 212. It received a new body with center cab to provide all-around visibility for the engineer. Unlike other Ge 2/4s, which were rebuilt with new motors and gears, No. 212 retained its original drivetrain. In 1998, the loco still performed switching duties at the Ilanz station, 85 years after it was built! The LGB model replicates this loco with paint and lettering from the late 1940s.
