Description: English below

Bernina Krokodil Ge 4/4 182

Bernina Crocodile Ge 4 / 4 182

This electric locomotive designed to operate using DC current is unique, and was taken over in 1928 as the Ge 4/4 No. 82 from the Bernina railway. The mechanical portion of this locomotive was provided by SLM, the electrical portion by Secheron Geneva. The engine was procured to be used primarily for freight traffic but was also used for passenger service.
In 1984 the locomotive was sold to the French La Mure Railway (SGLMG), but was never placed into service because the operating voltage required did not match that of the La Mure Railway and thus the locomotive was just sitting there rusting away. In 1999, the Club 1889 managed to have this locomotive transferred back to Switzerland. An extensive restoration program started in the year 2000 with the aim to place this valuable historical locomotive back into service.
