Der bekannteste Loktyp der Rhätischen Bahn ist das "Krokodil", Typ Ge 6/6, von dem in den 20er Jahren 15 Stück gebaut wurden. Mit 1067 PS Dauerleistung bewährten sich die Lokomotiven vor Güter- und Personenzügen auf den steilen Strecken der Schweizer Alpen. Heute noch werden einige Krokodile vor Sonderzügen eingesetzt, z. B. dem "Alpine Classic Pullman Express". Das LGB-Modell verfügt wie das Vorbild über zwei Motoren. Es kann mit Strom aus den Gleisen oder aus der Oberleitung betrieben werden. Der Außenrahmen-Antrieb ist voll funktionsfähig.
Vorbild
Als in den 20er Jahren einige Strecken der Rhätischen Bahn (RhB) elektrifiziert wurden, benötigte die Bahn neue, zugstarke Elloks. Zwischen 1921 und 1929 beschaffte die RhB 14 der berühmten “Krokodile”. Unter den beiden Vorbauten befindet sich je ein Elektro-Motor, dessen Kraft über Blindwellen, Treib- und Kuppelstangen auf die Räder übertragen wird. Mit einer Dauerleistung von 1076 PS und einer Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 55 km/h zählten die RhB-Krokodile viele Jahre lang zu den stärksten Schmalspurelloks der Welt. Heute werden einige dieser klassischen Lokomotiven vor Sonderzügen eingesetzt.

The Rhätische Bahn´s most famous locomotive is the articulated "Crocodile" Ge 6/6 (G = narrow gauge, e = electric, 6/6 = six axles, all powered). Built in the 1920´s, these 1,067-horsepower locos hauled freight and passengers over the steep grades of the of the Swiss Alps. Of the original fifteen, several still serve on special trains like the RhB´s Alpine Classic. Like the prototype, the LGB model is equipped with two motors. It can draw its power from an overhead catenary wire or from the track. The outside frame drive is fully operational. Additional number plates let you customize your own Crocodile.
The Prototype
When a number of Rhätische Bahn (RhB) lines switched from steam to electric traction in the 1920s, the railroad needed powerful new electric locomotives. Between 1921 and 1929, fourteen of the famous Ge 6/6 “Crocodiles” were built. The distinctive front and rear hoods house two electric motors. Power is transmitted from the driveshafts to the wheels through siderods. With a sustained power rating of 1076 hp and a top speed of 55 kph (35 mph), the articulated RhB Crocodiles set a standard for narrow gauge electric locomotives that remained unsurpassed for many years. Several of these classic locomotives remain in service and can be enjoyed in front of special trains.
