Zahnradlokomotiven haben bei der LGB schon eine lange und ausgeprägte Geschichte. So war es auch keine Frage, dass die Zahnraddampflok HG 4/4 mit dem hochinteressanten Triebwerk als Modell umgesetzt werden wird, und zwar in feiner Metallausführung. Angetrieben von einem leistungsstarken Gleichstrommotor, kann dieses Modell aufgrund des Zahnradantriebs auch solche Steigungen befahren wie das Original. Originalgetreu umgesetzt wurde das Zahnradtriebwerk: zum einen ist es – wie beim großen Vorbild – nur auf der Zahnstange im Betrieb, zum anderen dreht es sich natürlich entgegengesetzt zu den Treibrädern, dafür aber mit doppelter Drehzahl.
Vorbild
Für den Betrieb auf der Zahnradstrecke Krong Pha (später Song Pha) – Da Lat der Bahngesellschaft Compagnie Génerale de Colonies Paris in Indochina, dem heutigen Vietnam, lieferte 1924 die SLM (Schweizerische Lokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik Winterthur) zunächst fünf Vierkuppler der Bauart HG 4/4 mit den Nr. 701-705. Als Reparationsleistung aufgrund des verlorenen Ersten Weltkriegs baute die Maschinenfabrik Esslingen 1929 zwei Loks mit den Nr. 706 u. 707 nach Plänen der SLM. Noch einmal folgten 1930 von der SLM zwei Exemplare mit den Nr. 708 u. 709. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg waren nicht mehr alle neun Zahnradloks vorhanden und ab 1947 fuhren die verbliebenen Exemplare als VHX-40.302, 303, 304, 306 und 308 der Südvietnamesischen Staatsbahn. Den Vietnamkrieg überlebten noch die Nr. 304, 306 und 308 in mehr oder weniger betriebsfähigen Zustand und so fanden schließlich schon 1975 die letzten Fahrten statt.
Modell:
Zahnraddampflok HG 4/4 Nr. 701 im Ursprungszustand bei der Ablieferung durch die SLM Winterthur. Feindetailliertes Modell in schwerer Metallbauweise mit vielen angesetzten Details. Antrieb mit einem Hochleistungsmotor, alle Treibradsätze über Kuppelstangen angetrieben. Echter Zahnradbetrieb mit den LGB-Zahnstangen 10210 möglich.
Türen zum Führerstand und Rauchkammertür zum Öffnen. Originalgetreue Farbgebung und Beschriftung der Epoche II, im Ablieferzustand. Ausgerüstet mit einem mfx/DCC-Decoder mit vielen Licht- und Soundfunktionen wie Spitzenlicht, Führerstandsbeleuchtung, Fahrgeräusch, durch Reedschalter auslösbare Pfeife und vieles mehr. Fahrgeräusch auch im Analogbetrieb funktionsfähig. Eingebauter Rauchgenerator mit radsynchronem Dampfausstoß sowie Zylinderdampf, Dampf am Auspuff der Vakuumbremse und Dampfausstoß an der Pfeife, wenn diese betätigt wird.

Cogwheel locomotives have a long and distinctive history at LGB. There was thus no question that the class HG 4/4 cogwheel steam locomotive with its highly interesting driving gear would be realized as a model, namely with fine metal construction. Driven by a powerful DC motor, this model can be run on grades like the original due to the cogwheel mechanism. The cogwheel mechanism was modelled true to the original: On the one hand, it is – like the real life prototype – only in operation on the rack line, on the other it turns opposite of the driving wheels of course, but with double the rpm to do this.
Prototype:
SLM (Swiss Locomotive and Machinery Company Winterthur) initially delivered five locomotives with four coupled axles in 1924 for operation on the cogwheel line Krong Pha (later Song Pha) – Da Lat, the railroad company Compagnie Génerale de Colonies Paris in Indochina, presently Vietnam. These were the class HG 4/4, with road numbers 701-705. In 1929, the Esslingen Machinery Company built two locomotives with road numbers 706 and 707 as reparations due because Germany lost World War I. They were done from SLM plans. In 1930, came two more units from SLM with the road numbers 708 and 709. After World War II, not all nine cogwheel locomotives were still in existence and starting in 1947 the remaining units ran as road numbers VHX-40.302, 303, 304, 306, and 308 on the South Vietnamese State Railroad. Road numbers 304, 306, and 308 survived the Vietnam War in more or less operational condition and the last runs took place in 1975.
Model:
class HG 4/4 cogwheel steam locomotive, road number 701, as originally delivered by SLM Winterthur. It is a finely detailed model with heavy metal construction including many separately applied details. All driving wheelsets are driven via side rods by a powerful motor. Genuine cogwheel operation with the LGB 10210 cogwheel rack is possible. The doors to the cab and the smoke box door can be opened. The paint scheme and lettering are prototypical for Era II, or as originally delivered. The locomotive is equipped with an mfx/DCC decoder with many light and sound functions such as headlights, cab lighting, running sounds, whistle sound activated by a reed switch, and much more. The running sounds will also work in analog operation. The locomotive has a built-in smoke generator with steam exhaust synchronized to the wheels as well as cylinder steam, steam at the exhaust for the vacuum brakes, and steam exhaust at the whistle when the latter is activated.
