English
A trailing car with handbrakes was always required when operating roller block cars. For this reason, low-sided gondolas built in 1920 were often converted, the side walls removed and loaded with heavy cement slabs and have been used as auxiliary brake cars ever since. In earlier times they were called ballast cars, but the railwaymen called them "Schtoabremsn" (stone brakes) or sometimes "Schtoaschleudern" (stone slingshots)
The conversion of those cars was carried out between 1936 and 1938.
